"To inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.” -Dean Kamen
FRC Team 2648 is part of an international organization called FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). FIRST was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers in Manchester, NH. The organization supports 4 different competitive divisions: the FIRST Junior Lego League (Grades K-3), the FIRST Lego League (Grades 4-8), the FIRST Tech Challenge (Grades 9-12), and the FIRST Robotics Competition (Grades 9-12). FIRST hopes to inspire people at a young age to become well educated in math, science, and to become involved with the technology they have available to them. Doing this will allow them to become the engineers, mathematicians, doctors, scientists, and entrepreneurs of the next generation. FIRST works to improve the environment around us. It can inspire us to follow our dreams, and believe in ourselves. It teaches its participants to believe in the power of their minds, as well as gives them the initiative to take charge of their education, in a new fun way.
FIRST Robotics Competition celebrated its 20th season in 2011! The organization has grown from one event in 1992 to more than sixty events and more than 2,300 teams competing this season. FRC has also welcomed many new countries in the past twenty years, and now includes Regional Competitions outside the US. Although the organization has grown, the original goals and ideals of FIRST haven't been lost. Each team is encouraged to promote Gracious Professionalism along with Coopertition.
If you are interested in starting a FIRST Lego League team or a FIRST Robotics Competition team, please contact us. We have successfully started many FLL teams at in the last three years, as well as helped start 3 FRC teams at our neighboring high schools!
To create a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes. Enough from us, you know you want to check them out! USFIRST
